Build AI for industries that actually need it.

We're not a tech company trying to learn energy. We're energy people who build technology. Your work here solves real problems for real industries: automating expert decisions, building production AI systems, and shipping tools that people actually rely on every day.

See open roles
We turn what your best people know into machine-callable intelligence, for industries where getting it wrong has real consequences.

Arcanos is an AI consulting and engineering agency based in Calgary. We build purpose-built AI systems for energy, industrial, and field operations companies.

We have 20+ years in Alberta oil and gas. That's not a footnote, it's the reason our systems actually work. We understand the domain deeply enough to know where AI belongs and where it doesn't.

How We Work

The culture is the work.

No manifesto. No war metaphors. Just straightforward values executed with precision. The depth is in the practice, not the language.

01
We move fast.
Not because we're scrappy. Because we've already done the thinking. Speed isn't recklessness here. It's the direct result of knowing what we're doing.
02
We are dangerously technical.
We write the agents. We architect the pipelines. We debug the traces. When a client has a technical question, they don't get routed. They get an answer, right now.
03
We win every project.
Not by overpromising. By refusing to ship something we aren't proud of. Winning means the client calls back. The platform is still running eighteen months later.
04
We have fun doing it.
The best people stay because the problems are interesting, the team is sharp, and they're learning something new every week. If we ever stop having fun, we've already lost.
05
Domain knowledge is our moat.
Your industry experience isn't a "nice to have," it's the reason we build AI that actually works. We'll teach Python to someone who understands the operations before we teach operations to a Python developer.
06
Partners, not revenue.
Our clients aren't line items. We bring the domain knowledge and technical depth to give them the right solution, not just a solution. We win when they win.
Why Arcanos

What you get here.

Growth trajectory
Ground floor of a growing AI agency with real clients and real revenue. Your growth is tied directly to the company's. No promotion committees, no waiting.
Interesting problems, sharp people
The work is genuinely fun because the problems are hard and the team is good. We learn something new every week and we actively encourage staying current with emerging tools and technologies.
R&D, not just delivery
You're not just shipping features. You're helping build the methodology for how what your best people know gets captured and turned into machine-callable intelligence. That's original research applied to real industries, not another CRUD app.
Open Roles

We're hiring builders.

Two roles. Both hands-on. Both shipping to production.

AI Engineer
Calgary, AB Full-Time Python · TypeScript · React · PostgreSQL

About the Role

Arcanos builds production AI for companies in energy, heavy industry, and field operations. We're not a tech company trying to learn these industries. We have deep roots in Alberta oil and gas, and that domain depth is the reason our systems actually work. The AI we build automates real expert-level decisions, not chatbot demos.

We are hiring an AI Engineer to design and build those systems end to end. This role covers agentic system design, backend services and APIs, LLM integration, retrieval and data systems, and frontend work where needed. It is a hands-on software engineering role with an agentic-first orientation. The systems built in this role ship to production for real clients.

You will work closely with the founder and engineering team in a small company environment where engineers own problems end to end across the stack.

What You'll Work On

  • Design and build production AI systems using tool use, structured prompting, and multi-step orchestration
  • Build and maintain backend services in Python and TypeScript, including API design, async processing, and integration between services
  • Integrate LLMs into production pipelines using structured outputs, context management, and prompt patterns that hold up in real workloads
  • Build and maintain PostgreSQL and pgvector-based retrieval systems, including schema design, indexing, embedding pipelines, and update strategies
  • Develop and support React and Next.js interfaces that surface AI outputs through dashboards, workflow tools, and analyst-facing applications
  • Ship and maintain production systems across environments such as GCP, Hetzner, and related hosted infrastructure
  • Contribute to architecture decisions, code reviews, and documentation that improve consistency and reliability across projects

Required

  • Strong Python experience in production environments, including async patterns, API design, testing, and clean service architecture
  • Hands-on experience with LLM APIs and agentic patterns, including tool use, structured output, context management, and production prompt engineering
  • Strong PostgreSQL skills, including schema design, indexing, query performance, and working familiarity with pgvector
  • Working proficiency in TypeScript and comfort contributing in a modern full-stack codebase
  • Experience with Git, Docker, and CI/CD as part of normal production workflow
  • Comfort working in a small team with broad ownership across the stack

Nice to Have

  • Experience with vector databases beyond pgvector
  • Familiarity with model tracking tools such as MLflow or Weights & Biases
  • Experience with data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, or dbt
  • Exposure to cloud AI services such as AWS Bedrock or Azure OpenAI
  • Background in energy, oil and gas, or industrial operations
  • Side projects or personal work involving AI systems

Compensation

Competitive, based on experience. We will discuss specifics early and will not waste your time. Flexible on full-time or contract. We care about the work, not the arrangement.

IT Infrastructure & DevOps Engineer
Calgary, AB Full-Time or Contract

About the Role

Arcanos builds production AI for companies in energy, heavy industry, and field operations. We're a small team with deep roots in Alberta oil and gas. We understand the industries we serve, and the systems we build reflect that. We are hiring an IT Infrastructure & DevOps Engineer to design, build, and operate the infrastructure those systems run on.

This is the first dedicated infrastructure role at Arcanos. You will not be inheriting a mature environment. You will be helping build it. The role covers cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, PostgreSQL operations, container orchestration, security, monitoring, developer tooling, and support for AI-specific infrastructure where needed.

The role suits someone who is comfortable owning a broad scope independently, making practical infrastructure decisions with limited oversight, and balancing sound engineering instincts with startup pace.

What You'll Own

  • Design, build, and operate cloud infrastructure for internal systems and client-facing platforms
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for Python and TypeScript codebases, including deployment workflows, release safety checks, and rollback procedures
  • Own PostgreSQL operations, including backups, replication, recovery planning, vacuuming, and performance tuning under production load
  • Build and maintain Docker and Kubernetes deployment environments for AI services and internal applications
  • Improve infrastructure security through access controls, secrets management, network segmentation, auditability, and practical zero-trust measures
  • Design and maintain monitoring, alerting, runbooks, and incident response practices that detect issues early and support fast recovery
  • Improve staging, local development, and onboarding environments so engineers can ship more reliably
  • Support GPU and AI infrastructure requirements, including model serving and workload-specific deployment considerations where needed
  • Document infrastructure patterns and operational procedures so systems are maintainable and repeatable over time

Required

  • Strong Linux systems administration with deep comfort working across diverse server environments from the terminal
  • Demonstrated experience designing and operating Docker and Kubernetes infrastructure in production
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for multiple codebases, including deployment strategy and rollback procedures
  • Solid PostgreSQL operations experience including backups, replication, performance tuning, and recovery procedures
  • Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure at a design and operations level across at least one major platform
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals including VPCs, firewalls, DNS, load balancers, and TLS
  • Practical security experience including secrets management, access controls, and network segmentation

Nice to Have

  • Experience with GCP, Hetzner, or similar cloud or hybrid environments
  • Experience supporting GPU workloads or AI infrastructure in production
  • Familiarity with model serving tools such as vLLM, Ollama, or TGI
  • Experience with secure networking tools such as WireGuard or Tailscale
  • Familiarity with data platform tools such as Databricks, Snowflake, or ClickHouse
  • Experience with workflow tools or task queues such as Temporal, BullMQ, or Redis
  • Background in energy, oil and gas, or industrial environments where uptime has operational consequences
  • Homelab or personal infrastructure experience

Compensation

Competitive, based on experience. We will discuss specifics early and will not waste your time. Flexible on full-time or contract. We care about the work, not the arrangement.
